I guess you can say it ain't over till its over. Did a late trip with George and Ray and we caught some nice fish. This one was 41 pounds. Bait around and I also heard nice fish to 35 pounds on jigs in the ocean to the east. Captain Al Lorenzetti This is your new blog post. 11/2/2011 Today I fished with Jeff Sussman and his pal Joey (left to right). We did a half day and worked hard for one fish that Jeff caught on a Danny plug. It seems that most of the big fish moved on and we are now waiting for another body of fish to move in. It was a beautiful day and we did catch a fish so it turned out to be fun and a good trip. Another excellent day on the water. Captain Al Lorenzetti This is your new blog post. Click here and start typing, or drag in elements from the top bar.
Today I fished with Walter, Jim and James (right to left) on a cold but calm day. Everything was ice in the morning but it soon thawed out and warmed up. The fishing was pretty tough for a while but then I found a spot where some fish were holed up. We worked the yellow Danny plugs in large medium and small sizes and hooked up about a dozen fish with lots of other strikes and rises. The biggest fish was about 20 pounds. All were released except three good eating fish, one for each man. It was a great day on the water with a great crew. Everyone had a good time. Captain Al Lorenzetti Today I fished with Rich Nelson pictured here and his good buddy JB Deerin shown below. We had horrible fishing conditions today. Rain then wind and no bait to be found inside. We tried plugs today but that didn't work out either so we went to my stash of live bunker and found some fish. Here is JB with a nice 28 pounds fish taken on a live bunker. It was a good day regardless of the weather and certainly a memorable one. I just love my new Aqua Skins rain gear. It kept me warm and dry and the best part is the bibs have a waterproof zipper. Captain Al Lorenzetti I fished today with Fred McKibben and his buddy Scott. We had a great day with at least 8 or 10 fish to over 30 pounds on both bait and plugs. Here is Scott with a nice 30 pound fish and he also caught his first fish on a plug today. Fred and Scott back at the dock with a couple of nice fish for the table. We left the fish biting and threw back a bunch. Another excellent day on the water with a great crew. Fred and I go back a long way and it was fun to fish with him again plus he always brings a super lunch. Captain Al Lorenzetti 10/21/2011 I fished today with Rich Nelson Jr, his son James pictured here, and his dad Rich Senior. We worked hard to catch bass in very tough windy conditions. James boated this 20 pound bass and what was amazing was the fish had a rock the size of my fish in his gut. James is holding it in his left hand. I have heard stories about bass eating rocks to give them stability in stormy weather or accidentally eating one when rooting for crabs in the sand. This is the first time I have personally seen it in thousands of bass that I have caught. I guess this was a true "Rockfish". An interesting day on the water. Today I fished with Steve Rogers and his buddies Chris who is always with him And Sandor who is new to the group. We had a great day of striped bass fishing and Sandor showed how to do it. We had bass on the bunker pods and whales running around. Sandor had a 48 pound fish which you see here. He also had a 40 and a 38. All the fish were big and Steve and Chris also had fish in the upper 30's. Below are a couple of video segments shot with my new GoPro Hero camera. The last video of the whale is shot with my Olympus Stylus camera. Another excellent day on the water. Captain Al Lorenzetti The end of the day with the backyard shot of the crew. Chris, Steve and Sandor left to right with a super catch of quality striped bass. Captain Al Lorenzetti I fished today with George Yurcak and Jeff Butta in the First Annual Suffolk Marine Angler's Spring Striped Bass Tournament. We won it with George's beautiful 43.95 pound striped bass. We caught it late in the day with just enough time to make weigh-in. As George said it was a "Whistle" fish. The fishing was a little tough today with all the boat traffic which sent the bass scattering but the bait is there and the fishing will be great for at least the next month. We are only at the beginning of the big run. We had fun and rocked to the music when times were tough. We never gave up and ran all over the place putting the baits in the right spot and eventually with some skill and a lot of luck landed on the winner. Sometimes it works. A 34 year old boat did it today. The Tournament was a great success thanks to Suffolk Marine and Miller's Ale House who sponsored the event. All went smoothly with 23 boats fishing. The Captain's Meeting at Miller's on June 1st was a great night with super raffle prizes from Millers, West Marine, and Suffolk Marine Angler's. The Awards Barbecue this afternoon was great with Carlos cooking up a storm. Many great anglers fished hard today with varied success but all did their best. Thanks to all of you for being a part of a really good day. Everyone was pleased with the event and and it was a great success. We are having a summer fluke contest and another bass contest in the fall. Once again they will be sponsored by Suffolk Marine Anglers and Miller's Ale House. Congratulations George. P.S. I have Thursday and Friday open and the fishing is great so if you want to land a big one email me at captal@skimmeroutdoors.com. Kathy thought she would like a photo with the fish. I'm not sure who is bigger. Nice photo Kath. |
